Now I've lived through shenanigans at Radio Free Asia where some of Burmese staff brought up volume of gun shots during a live broadcast by a reporter far away during a hostage situation in Ratchaburi on the BurmaThai Border; the time I made a serialization and dramatization of Animal Farm in Burmese (and the VP said "just do a book review"), and 9/11, and now covid,

and I am familiar with the places near New York City,

this seems much more realistic to me. It is of course, Brilliant.

I can believe people in 1938 thought it was real, and panicked, when today all sorts of BS is coming from the so-called prez, such as "We're rounding the corner on covid" and "You can put chlorox in body and disinfect it," and "maybe I'm immune" and "herd mentality."

Hope by Wed. this living nightmare might be over, but we will see.

Pl VOTE, if you have not already. And have a plan, not just for election day, but also for afterwards.

I heard yesterday that Dr Fauci said it will go into 2022. Of course it will.

Greetings from Washington, DC.

I was supposed to write "Economic effects of Covid-19" for you all over there, but I got caught up in other things, including staying alive, making cloth masks and U.S. politics. The habits of just 3 years at Radio Free Asia die hard, and I check the news every 2-3 hours, including at night. Needless to say, the economic effects have been and will continue to be devastating.

Death and disease also have a multiplier effect. On non-political-economy, I am an active member of a Fiber Group, but I am the only one painting, making needlepoint and crocheting.

All I can say is after working for democracy in Burma for decades and studying authoritarian systems, to be confronted with #45 is quite something. Vote, whichever country you are a citizen of.

My book has arrived, and I've wiped it with hand sanitizer, but not reading yet as new research says covid lives on surfaces 28 days, not 3.

I have seen Auschwitz in 1968-9 while I was studying in Poland. Deutsche Bank financed Auschwitz.

Another book by Detlev Peukert maintains Nazis remained in then W Germany even after WWII. I believe it.

Look what I found, illustrated life of Buddha by U Ba Kyi

When we were growing up, we had a print copy of this, which we kept under our shrine shelf.

And I just found out U Ba Kyi also went to Univ of Pennsylvania, School of Arts and Science, in Philadelphia, and he may have been selected for that scholarship by my father U Kaung. In the 1950s, a number of Burmese studied in the USA or UK.

And then in 1962, after my father had passed away already, Gen. Ne Win stage his coup and stopped all scholarships to West, except for medical doctors.

My husband's boss used to say, "Well, why doesn't he have a barefoot doctor cut into him then?"

I also went to U Penn in 1982 on a Fulbright. 6 of us in a country of 60m were selected after a battery of tests, bc Ne Win's daughter failed her entrance exams for med school in London.

For a while, Wikipedia listed her as "dictator gynaecologist."

That's all amazing.
