Knit or crochet--puffy sleeves and hand-dyed wool.
I don't think you can dye acrylic as you can't boil it, it will probably melt and if cool dye, color will probably slide off.
But the natural colors sure do look natural and soft.
I still have a pot of mangosteen-skin dye that I have made for ages.
